"hieroglyphics"???? that show up in excel worksheet

Posted by Brian Branda on October 26, 2001 8:48 AM
I am trying to export data from my Palm Pilot to Excel (in order to merge addresses in Word, and accomplish some other objectives with the Palm data). When the data is exported as a .csv file, some of it arrives in excel with these little "boxes" (usually 2 of them) at the end of a word. I'd like to remove all of these, by using find/replace but I do not know how to type in the symbol (in "find") to tell Excel to "replace" the boxes with "nothing". Anybody have an idea as to how to do this. I have tried to go directly from palm to word (for the addresses), but that doesnt work.

Brian, have you tried to export in another format (maybe tab delimited)? Those little boxes, if they are the same ones I'm thinking of, refer to a carriage return.

In another column the =CLEAN function will remove those non printable characters.
