Calculating the number of daysd between 2 dates

How do I calculate the total number of days betweeen to cell which are date formatted e., 3/7 - 5/7 should return 2, but instead I get a long string of numbers.

The dates e.g. 3/7 are date formatted

=B1-A1

where B1 contains more recent date.

Format the cell where you put this formula as number.
