"unable to read file" error
Posted by E. Kwong on May 12, 2000 1:52 PM
I have more than 50 excel files on a floppy and I'm kind of review and re-org them lately. But there are 7 or 8 files can't be opened, with the "unable to read file" message box popping up. Is it because the floppy may be damaged? Anyway to repair them?

Hello,
Excel have their own way of representing data and associated information such as column headings and row and column location of the data. Such data is in general not transferrable across programs. One such example of this is that even for Excel, earlier versions of Excel may be unable to open a file saved by a later version of Excel.
Sometimes floppy may corrupt. So it is better to take a backup of the files.
Hope this helps you. :-)
Regards,
Sherlock.
