cell formatting

I am trying to copy a sheet from one file to another file. The destination file is quite large and has many different cell formats associated with it. Upon trying to copy the sheet, I am receiving an error indicating there are too many cell formats and I get an "out of memory" error. Thus, the copy is unsuccessful.
I believe many of the existing formats contained within the destination file are probably not used within the spreadsheet.
Does anyone know how to audit the cell formats to determine whether or not they are being used within the spreadsheet? I would like to delete (preferably using a group delete function)all of the formats not currently being used

Hi Brian
Highlight all cells on the Worksheet and push F5 then Special>Blanks. click OK. Now go to Edit>Clear>All. Do the same for each Worksheet.

It does not work. It came up with same error message.

How many Workbooks did you have open when you tried and how BIG are they ?
