change format in list validation dropdown

I have a "list" validation on a cell in which I have entered the last day of every month for the list. In the drop down it is displaying in format "dd-mmm" is there a way to make this show as "m/dd"

Travis,

Put the items of your list somewhere else. Select that range and custom format it as m/dd. Type in Data Validation window as Source of your list the range you just created.
