Excel Scroll

I am experiencing a problem with Excel when I am scrolling. The scroll will abruptly change to highlighting my scrolled area and then I am unable to turn off what has been highlighted. The only solution to resolve this is to hit Ctrl Alt Delete and delete the Excel application. Of course, any edits I had made up to that point are lost.
