or ' before text in a cell that will not go away. HELP!!!!!!!

I have a spreadsheet with text fields where the value of every cell is preceded with either an ' or a ^. I can't get this to go away. For example the cell will have ^Name but show up as Name. when i go in to the cell and remove the ^, it just shows up again. suggestions?????

I have seen this in sheets converted from Lotus, but in Excel it should not happen. Try and check to see what the cell is formatted as. General or Text should be OK.

You can try to replace the ^ with "" where "" is nothing-Blank form the menue toolbar(Edit-Replace) find then replace. JSW
