I want to calculate my total time worked for a month. I have the time for every day in the HH:MM format in a column and i want to sum the times to see the total. I have tried to just sum it but it does not work, how do I do?

I just read last night that in Excel time is interpreted as fractions of dates, where dates are numbered sequentially starting with January 01 1900 being equal to 1. 12AM on Jan 1, 1900 would then be 1.0, and 12PM would be 1.5. Time elapsed would be:
Time Elapsed = 1.5-1.0 = 0.5 or 12 hours.
So, try calculating the difference between dates, including the hour and minute detail, and then sum the differences.

Altough Excel does treat time as fractions of a day, it does recongize them as Time.
So, if you have this times
You can use the SUM() function to add them, and format this cell as [hh]:mm just in case the result is over 24 hours.

Does this mean it is not necessary to calculate the elapsed time before summing with the difference formula?
