copying the contents of a cell

Can I copy the contents of a cell (formulae) from with in that formulae to another cell? I would like to have the formula copy itself into the cell directly below it afer it has been filled and not before. I'm trying the IF function, but cannot find any way to tell it to copy from one cell to another.

The only way I can see of it being done is to have the formula there but return blank if not required. I.E.
=IF(A1=2,"Do something","")
