Excel code recovery

Posted by Martin Newell on October 22, 2001 8:51 AM
Is there a utility that will help recover the VBA code that has been lost due to a corrupted Excel file. When I try to load my Excel file I get the following error: "EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. An error log is being created." What is puzzling is that the code ran fine until I saved the file and tried to reload it. There is no warning that hours of coding will suddenly become inaccessible!

Is it possible to copy the file in Windows Explorer? I'd certainly give that a shot.

But, also, I notice that your message says "Excel.exe" has generated errors. Isn't that the Excel application itself rather than your data file? Could be a re-install will fix Excel.exe and you'll find your data file - your particular file that is -- is alright.

Hoping it's so,...
