problems converting .rpt format to .xls format
Posted by David Hoyt on January 26, 2001 6:05 AM
I am using a database reporter called ReportSmith. When I convert the report to Excel all the numbers are saved as text. I have tried to change to a number using the format cell but it don't work. The only way I have found that works is by editing each cell by hitting "F2" and then "enter". This takes a long time as you can guess. What is the best way to convert a text cell to a number cell?

I'm not familiar with ReportSmith, but I trust that
the report it creates is a .txt file. If so, you
can open the report file from within Excel using
the File Open... command. This will invoke the Text
to Column wizard which will allow you to format
columns at will.
