Pivot table annoyance

I use a massive, in my terms, pivot table and add data to it each month.

I have tried naming a range for the data to be picked up from i.e. $a:$i, so as it will automatically add new info..on refresh.

The problem i have is i cannot group my data when i use such a range (i.e. days into months)

is there another way
