Averages in Excel 97 Pivot Tables

Posted by Dave on January 20, 2000 2:06 PM
I have an Excel 97 database with Months in one of the columns, and sale volumes in the next. When I use Pivot Tables to summariz the sales by month, I want to get the average for the months displayed, instead of Grand Totals. I can't find any functions in the Help pages which will do this. Can anyone help?

Once you've dragged the sales volume data into the "data" area on the Pivot Table Wizard, double click it and select Average from the list of options. You can also do Sum, Count, Max, Min, Product, Count Nums as well as some highly interesting statistical functions.

Hope this helps.

Thanks jaf, but unfortunately that doesn't give me what I need - it produces an average figure for each month. What I am looking to do is to produce an average for the whole year i.e the sum of the 12 months divided by 12. I need this average figure to replace the Grand Totals which is produced as part of the standard Pivot Table summary
