Printer Difficulty...

Posted by Bill Tanner on December 14, 1999 10:53 AM
Now that I have found this wonderful site, I have a chance to clear up some things that have been driving me nuts for quite some time....

I have an Excel file. Print it on my HP LazerJet 6P and it works just fine.

Copy it to disk and print it on my wife's HP 4000, don't change the margins or the font or anything, and it no longer prints okay. Her printer gets 63 rows on a page while mine gets 58 (or something like that). That's for the same file, with the same page set up settings, etc.

Is that something that I can control?

Hi there,

I think scaling should remain the same, just as your margins did not
change when you used different printers. I think it's the matter of
the printers. I've noticed that even though I use Arial font, sometimes
the width of the font looks slightly different when I print on different
types of printers. Sometimes it's a variation on the thickness of the
font and minor things like that which can ultimately throw off how many
rows/columns you have in a document.
