Excel 97 Macros

I have worksheets which are suddenly asking me if I want to run macros? I did not input any macros? How do I find them and delete them?

You may have a virus of some sort.

However, the first thing to do is the following:

Shift F11

This will take you into the Excel Macro environment.

The top left hand window will have a tree structure in which you should see all the sheets in the workbook and any Modules which contain Macro code.

Double click on the sheet names and the modules to see if there is any code in them. The Code will appear on the right hand side of the screen.

If any code appears then you need to find out where it came from - virus or deliberate

Viruses also write code to a file which they put into the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XlStart folder. The file that is saved there is automatically accessed by any excel file which you open and faithfully follows all instructions in it. The virus writers love it of course.

There should be a default file there called MSCreate.

Also, I would scan your drive for infected files with your Virus scanner. This takes a while to make a cup of tea (this is England you know), coffee of you are in the States, while it runs!
