Excel Macro Programming

Posted by George L Smyth on January 17, 2000 4:52 PM

I have been searching, without success, throughout the Internet for information on Excel Macro Programming. Is this information available anywhere? Assuming the answer is "No," what is the best book to purchase that will allow me to learn to program Excel Macros. I have a rudimentary (though certainly not extensive) understanding f Visual Basic.

Thanks -

George,

Here's a very comprehensive list of Excel links to check out. You should be able to find a fair amount of stuff for beginners, however, for the real basics a book is probably your best bet. I've never looked at the books for beginners, but generally anything by Que is pretty good. Honestly, for the basics, I'm sure anything covering the subject is likely to be OK.

If you already have a basic grounding in VB and therefore general programming the easiest way to learn about the excel specific objects is to use the macro recorder to record a few macros then analyse the code to pick out the bits you need. Combined with the VBA help files (which aren't part of the default MSoffice installation but should be on your CD) you should be able to learn most of what you need.
