Hidden rows; blue row numbers

Several successive rows of a worksheet had somehow become hidden. It appears that their height was set to 0. I could expand the height of a row by positioning the cursor between rows. Once expanded, the row number became blue, not black.
The rows would not become visible if I selected cells above and below the hidden rows and adjusted the row height; similarly, selecting the entire worksheet and adjusting row height had no effect.
When I save and re-load, the affected row numbers are still blue.
What did I do to cause the problem?
What is the significance of a blue row number?

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Can you not just select the rows that are hidden, plus the row before and the row after theose hidden, right-click, and choose Unhide? That's how I hide/unhide rows.

Your sheet is probably filtered. From the worksheet menu, click on Data > Filter > Show All
or
Data > Filter > deselect AutoFilter
