Corrupted Workbook

Please Help.
We have a workbook that cannot be opened. The error message is "Unable to read file" Tried the excel safe mode, tried opening as read only, tried copying and opening with another name. None of which have worked. I tried opening in "Quick View" and the workbook opened the first worksheet, but soon crashed while opening the other sheets. If I can open the first sheet, I can recover all the data I need. Is there any way to open a single worksheet? Is there a repair I can do?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
try a quick search on posts by MarkHenri (I'm assuming you've searched already on "corrupt files" or something similar...)

I believe he offers his email to offer trying it for you (he's a microsoft technician or something and actually does this in his spare time to help out when all else fails...)
