Hi,

I have produced a bar chart in excel, and not i need to put a limit line, so i can clearly see if the bars are above or below the limit.

Can i do this without rebuilding the chart? and how?

Thanks

If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
You can do so.

Add the values for a (constant) line as a new series.

Then, right click one of the bars for the second series, and change the chart type to a Line, for instance.

Re: Limit line on excel graph pt 2

How many values do you plot for that line? You could have that (always the same constant) value on each X axis value, just as you do for the bars.

This changes my whole graph to the new format (all lines or all bards. I want a complex graph with bars and a line.

Hi

Welcome to the board

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Makes no sense to me.

Each series may have an independent type, so you can have series 1,2,3 as bar and series 4 as XY, then 5 as line, 6 again as bar ...

For each series you choose the type.

Did you follow the instructions on the link that I posted?

Please explain what you mean.

I found the error.
MS Updated Excel and in the process eliminated (improved?) the old method of simply clicking on the data I wanted to change and allowing me to choose a new type of graph (converting a bar series to a line in bar chart). The new version allows you to open a formatting box and then selecting how each series is depicted. It took a couple of tries but works great (once I read the instructions).
