Does anyone know how to insert an accent over a letter in excel? I'm sure it can be done but I can't figure it out.
Thanks,
Kirsten

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
Go to Insert\Symbol.

Then all you have to do is find the letter you want in the listing, and click insert.

Hope it helps,

I have Office 2000 now and I think you are right that I used to be able to do that in Office 97 but I don't have that option now in my insert drop down list. I do however have it in Word, just not excel.

Any other ideas?

Ok, I just went to another computer here at work that has 2000. Looks like you'll have to go to your Windows Start menu and go to Programs\Accessories\System Tools and select Character map.

Then just choose the one you want, then click Select, then copy. Then switch back to Excel and just paste it in the cell as you normally would.

Hope it helps,

G'dag, Kirsten,

Also, if you have any of the WP Multinational fonts on your machine, there are a lot you can use:

Lower case "n" gives an "a" with accent grave
Upper case "J" gives an "e" with accent ague (sic)
Upper case "P" gives an "e" with accent grave
etc.,
etc.

Just type them, enter, highlight them in the formula bar, and choose the above font. Did I say "just"?

You can also type "high-ascii" characters in by holding the alt key down and typing the number in on the number pad. To see a list of these special characters...

Open an Excel worksheet.
Press Alt+F11
Press F1
In the Answer Window Tab, Search for "ascii"
Click on "character set"

Find the symbol you desire and remember the number associated with it. Then hold the alt key down and key that number in from the number pad. The row of numbers above the letter keys will not work.

alt+133= à
or alt+138= è

That is if the message board processes this high ascii as expected. :)
