Setting to open files in new instance of excel?

I would really like excel to open files in a new instance of excel by default. Currently the only way I can do this is by starting excel and then File->Open. While this is only a little bit of extra effort, I've recently gotten in the habit of opening and closing 100s csv files daily and the wasted time really adds up. I've read several threads here, but mostly found people trying to accomplish the opposite of what I am. Thank you for any help.

Tools -> Options -> General | Uncheck Ignore Other Applications

Thanks for the response. Yes, this is for Excel 2010. I went File -> Options -> Advanced. Under the general heading the option "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" was already unchecked, so I reckon there must be something else to do in 2010.

How to make Excel open each file in a separate window. Tip #198

Those directions were only tested on Windows XP. I was unable to follow them on my Windows 7 machine.

However, I did find a good way to do it with Windows 7. How to Open Excel Files in a New Application Instance (Windows 7 or Vista) | Excel Questions and Answers

No idea about Windows 8, but surely it is easier now.
