    Default Formula copies cell format?

I have a user who is using a "master" sheet to pull values from, and place them on other sheets in the same workbook. The data on the master sheet is in merged cells and formatted as text. When the following formula (=Sheet1!A1) is placed on sheet2 it pulls the text format as well and displays the formula as text, not the data. To correct this, I formatted the cell back to general, edit the cell (F2) and hit enter, then it shows the data from sheet1. My problem is I can't duplicate this in a new workbook, so I can't figure out what he's done to create this problem. Any ideas where to look?

    Thanks, Dave

Sheet2 cells must have been pre-formatted as text instead of leaving them with their default format (which is General). Also, it's possible (actually, a hunch on my part) that a switch from number processing formulas to text processing formulas alters the underlying format of the cell to text.

    Aladin,
I'm not sure I understand, but I tried pre-formatting the cell in sheet2 to text then entering the formula, and that just shows the formula. Like I said before, I can't duplicate this problem in a new workbook. When I try it in a new workbook, it shows the data correctly.

    Thnaks, Dave

Ok, new developement! This only occurs when the sheet has been renamed to something other than the default "Sheet1" (ie "Dave1"). Any ideas?

    Thanks, Dave

P.S. I'm not looking for the Hee Haw, Doc Campbell response

That's also what I said: When the format of sheet2 or the target cell is changed is changed from its default General format to Text before any entry, the formula will show up as text.

You can't because you use in a new workbook cells that are default-formatted as General.

Another issue is whether a change from General to Text happens without the user interference.
