Unable to Record Macros???

I have a worksheet that won't allow me to record a macro. However, if I open up a new workbook, I can. Any ideas why this one file won't let me record?

What is it doing that indicates it will not allow you to record ?
Have you tried closing the sheet and reopening it ?
Do you have the sheet in Read only mode ?

Msgbox comes up "You are unable to record a macro"
Closing and reopening didn't work.
Sheet was not in Read only mode.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not enter more than 255 characters per cell while recording a macro.

Close, but not quite. There aren't any strings greater than 255 characters. In fact, the max has been about 50 characters. Here's the kicker though - I tried to copy and paste the info into a new worksheet and I was allowed to record. This may make it a moot point now, but I was just wondering in case it happens in the future (on a sheet with too much to copy/paste). Thanks everyone.

Just curious: What version OS and Excel are you using?

OS is Windows 2000 Professional and I'm using Excel 2000.
