Autosum not working.

Using the cursor, I am dragging down to highlight a column of numbers, then clicking the autosum button. Usually the function works but strangely, it is not working now in my new spreadsheet. Autosum is still working fine for number columns in older sheets. When I copy and paste the new number cells into an old sheet, side-by-side with an older column of number cells, the new cells still will not autosum but the old cells do. Instead, the text =SUM() appears, along with a small yellow window containing "SUM(number1, [number2], ...)"

In Tools/Options/Calculation, 'Automatic' is set in both old and new sheets. I think the new data is incorrectly formatted but I'm not sure how to fix it.

Thanks for any help.

Fixed it. In case it helps anyone - I found there to be two blank spaces after each cell entry. I removed these by using Data/Text to Columns/Fixed Width. The autosum now works as it should.
