Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Try copying a blank cell
Highlight the 'text dates'
Right Click - Paste Special - Values - Add - Ok
Now format the cells as a date format of your liking.

Another way...

1) Press ALT+de to bring up the TextToColumn dialog box
2) Select Delimited and click Next
3) Make sure there are no checkmarks in either the Space or Comma checkbox
4) Click the Finish button
5) Format the cells the way you want
