Default Decimal Numbers to Feet and Inches

Is there a way to store a text style that will allow me to convert decimal numbers into feet and inches in the same cell?

I want to be able to type in a number like 3.5 and have it read 3'-6".

    Thanks.

This formula will also convert an entry from a number and decimal to Feet and Inches. However it must be in an adjacent cell.

    3.50 3 Feet 6 Inches

    =INT(A12)&" Feet"&" "&CONVERT(A12-INT(A12),"ft","in")&" Inches"

    or

    3.50 3 ' 6 "

    =INT(A12)&" '"&" "&CONVERT(A12-INT(A12),"ft","in")&" """
Started building macros in Lotus 123, then Quattro Pro and now program in Excel VBA.

Default #NAME? Error For Feet and Inch Conversion

That would work even better but I am getting a

#NAME? Error. I copied your formula:

    =INT(A12)&" '"&" "&CONVERT(A12-INT(A12),"ft","in")&" """

and put it in cell B12 and then put a number in A12 to convert and that is the error that I get.

    Thanks.

    Hi:

Data needs to be numbers....not text.

I think you also have to load the "Data Analysis" Tool Pak Add In

    Under Tools - Add-ins

    to use the function "convert"

You have to go to Tools Add-Ins and click on Analysis Tool Pak. There many kinds of formulas that Excel does not recognize without this Tool Pak.

I'm trying to get this function to work in Excel 2003 and I am experiencing the following difficulties:

    1) After following the instructions in the tip012 link, and the follow on comments in this thread I am able to get the function to work initially. After I close out of excel and then return to the sheet the function no longer works. I get the following error message: "This function takes no arguments." Am I not saving the function in the VBA module correctly?

    2) The function shows up as book1.xls!FEET.FEET in the insert function window. I would like to know how to make it read FEET.

Thanks in advance for your help, I'm new to this forum and have ZERO experience with VBA. I can work my way around a spread sheet pretty well but I'm sure the VBA features will make things easier.
