Pie Chart with Subdivisions

Hey all,

I have a question regarding pie charts. Basically I have a chart with 9 different categories broken up by percentages. I can create this general chart with no problem.

However, within each of these 9 categories, I also have data sets for multiple sub categories. I want to show another pie chart using the same 9 data labels, but each of them would be broken out into several smaller slices. I do not want to use a pie-in-pie chart.

See the images below for examples:

Any ideas?

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
Idea: don't use pie charts. If you're comparing 2 or 3 categories, they might be acceptable, but 9 categories is probably too many to be easy to understand.

Try using stacked bar charts; this will allow you to accomplish both of your goals. Firstly, your original chart (with the 9 categories) could be easily compared by height to see which category has the greatest percent of the whole. Secondly, inside each of the 9 bars, your sub-categories could be represented by different colors.

The link below has some graphics that illustrate what I mean:

Scroll down to the 2 pictures of bar charts, and the one on the left is the kind of stacked bar chart to which I am referring.
