please help...

I have a person that everytime they open Excel 2000 they get the following visual basic error:
Run-time error '53':
File not found: essexcln.xll

I have found out that this file is an excel add-in...
How can I remove reference to this file and stop the error??
Your help is appreciated...

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Thanks for responding however I can't do this. The user gets the error and Excel never opens so I cannot get into any menus...
Is there any other way around this?
Is there something in the registry???

thanks

Thanks... I had found that site online a few days and didn't go through all of it. I think it explains how to mess around with this add-in but this guy's Excel won't even open to disable this feature... it looks like the add-in was installed and somehow removed and now at startup it says 'file not found' and closes. It's driving me crazy.. I reinstalled, tried renaming the office folder. Maybe I can do a search in the registry for the file?? I don't know... always a little nervous with playing with regedit.
Thanks!

Microsoft has a program called "regclean" which deletes invalid references in the registry. I have no confidence with regedit either (bad experience ending in tears!!!!), but regclean might help you (free download at MS site).

Give it a shot, maybe it'll help!?

To get rid of this error the user must perform the following:

Close Excel and all office programs then:
You will need to delete the file named ASRFRONTEND.XLA from both of these locations.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Library
And
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\XLSTART
