Excel 2013 Data Model Problems

I have been using excel pivot tables for some time and have used the group selection to roll dates into months, quarters, etc. Also, I have used the calculated fields capability to add new/useful columns.

Recently, I started using the new data model capability in excel 2013 to work with multiple tables added to the data model. I was surprised to find that the group selection options and the calculated fields option were grayed out. Why is the happening and is there a work around?

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
The data model gives you an OLAP pivot table. You can't use either of those features with that. Groups need to be created in the source data and you need the PowerPivot add-on to create measures (a much more powerful version of calculated fields).

Rory,

Thanks, I was afraid that was the issue. Since the PowerPivot add-on is NOT available for Excel 2013, it appears that I will need to move to the ProPlus version.

It is also available with standalone Excel 2013.
