Access/Excel link with user entered date range query

Not sure if this should be in the Excel area or Access.

I have an Excel workbook linked to an Access query that updates charts. The user refreshes the data from Excel. The query has a hard coded date range which I would like to change so the user enters the before and end dates. If I set the query up so the user enters the date parameters I receive an error when refreshing from the Excel workbook. What is the best approach for user entered dates? Would I accomplish this in Access or Excel?

It *usually* works well ... not sure if there's something else about your situation here.
