Hello, could anyone help me with the below problem;

I have a table which includes the 'length of stay' (how many days someone has received the service). I want to pull this data month by month into a powerpivot chart and show the average.

For some reason it wont work it out, it 'counts' the data but wont work out the 'average', brings up a error message; 'error - calculation aborted: calculation error in measure '...': the function takes an argument that evaluates to numbers or dates and cannot work with values of type string'.

Does anyone know what this means and how I can resolve the issue?

Thank you in advance

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
I'm not getting the issue yet. Do you think that you could upload a copy of your workbook so I can take a look at it and see what you mean?

Good morning All,

I am also getting the same error message.

When I use count it is OK

However when I use average I get the following error message

What data type is that field in your table? Text?

Can you just confirm how you verified that - you did look at the actual field properties?

Good morning Rory,

I highlighted the relevant cell containing the data and checked the format cell category.

You need to look at the field properties in the PowerPivot table. I suspect it's Text which would explain why Count works but Average won't.
