Hi All,
I have a strange problem. When I create a new workbook the column and row headings look strange. The row heading are too small and you can't see the number. And the columns just don't look right. ![]() What is wrong? Is must be a setting but I don't know what. I have enabled to view the headings so I am not sure what it is. Thanks |

Those don't look like real column headings to me - there shouldn't be a row number next to the A for a start. Are you sure you have row and column heading set to display?

Yes. I has double checked.
On the page layout tab Headings is enabled. And on the View tab then headings are also enabled. The strange thing is that this is only for new blank books. If I open an old book then it look perfectly normal. |

Check in your two XLSTART folders and look for a file called Book.xltx or Book.xlt. If you find one, move it somewhere else and then see if creating a new book still has the same problem.

My XLSTART folder is empty!
I tried creating a Book.xltx in this folder (one which looks OK) but to no avail. Also I have noticed. If I start up excel, the default new book it opens is OK. It is only when I go to new Blank Workbook that I have the problem. |

There are two XLSTART folders - did you check both? There is also an option in the Excel Options called something like 'At startup open all files in'
If you just press Ctrl+N, does the new workbook look OK?
