There's probably an easy answer to this, but I can't figure it out. Is there a way to shut off that irritating Office Assistant in Excel?

Thanks.

Right click the little shite.
Choose options.
Unclick the "Use office assistant box"

I'm using Excel 97. I right clicked but don't see that box. Any other way to do it?

...I guess I should clarify this...I want him to PERMANENTLY go away, not just shut off temporarily.

Thanks.

Sorry I'm thinking Excel 2000. I did it in 97 too, just got to remember how.

Simply open the folder "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeActors" and rename the clippy.act file.

Try renaming to clippy.ac1 or clippy.bak.

When you want Clippy back (HA! Yeah right like thats going to happen), just rename him to clippy.act again.

If your Office Assistant is one of the alternative personalities, just look for the file with the .act extension (in the above referenced Actors folder) and rename it. For instance, dot.act, hoverbot.act, et cetera.

Or you can just delete the whole actors folder
