Suppopse I have the following formula in a cell:

=A1&"test"

Where A1 contains a numerical value- this works fine when i type in the formula and press enter..However, if i then go into the cell, press F2 to see where the forumla references, it then just displays the formula as you see it above! I think this may just be a setting issue, but am having no luck. Can anyone help me please!!!?

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
The formula cell is text-formatted...

Run Edit|Replace with...

Find What set to: =

and

Replace With set to: =

Then activate the Replace All button.

thanks for that- why does it not fix it if i change the format to general?
I would have thought that would fix it...

It's been my experience that you need to do a "re-enter" ie as Aladin advised, as the format change (eg from Text to General) doesn't seem to affect the pre-existing cell contents. Another way to do achieve Aladin's suggestion is to select the column and go Data>TextToColumns and then click Finish.
