Excel 2000 & XP installed on some computers at work & on one at home do not allow Excel to be closed with the standard windows X in top right corner. Must be closed through Menu - File, Exit.
Seems to be on only certain computers. Have re installed office several times. Other problems that these computers that display these problems are: - Changes to Standard & Format toolbars cannot be saved. (on opening excel, changes appear then toolbar replaced with Excel Standard toolbars) - Have tried replacing XLB files in app/ MS/Excel - Keyboard shortcut [Ctrl +] for insert does not work with + on numberkeypad |

Hi phyam
If the "X" for the close window is not there at all you may have the Workbook protected for "Windows". Go to Tool>Protection>Unprotect Workbook. The Toolbar problem sounds like the Custom Toolbar is attached to the Workbook, this means you MUST Delete it then make changes, Attach it again and save. Go to View>Toolbars>Customize | Toolbars Click "Atatch" then select the Toolbar name in the right hand box and click Delete, then OK twice. Now make your changes and go back and Attach it again then save. The [Ctrl+] keyboard shortcut may have been replaced with a custom one. Push Alt+F8 and check for any macros with this shortcut key. If all the above fail try this; Close Excel Completely then go to Start>Run and type in "excel /regserver" Note the space before the switch. |
