vlookup

I am kind of new to this VLOOKUP and was looking for some info.
I am creating a worksheet for pricing purposes. On sheet 1 I will have the entire pricebook and on sheet 2 will be the customer info. I want the items I pick to be copied to sheet 2 without fooling with the integrity of sheet 1. Keeping in mind that the cell information will not line up between sheets.
Any examples of how to do this.

Not knowing how your price table might be organized suppose that Sheet1!A1:D4 contains...

{"Customer","Jan","Feb ","Mar"
;"Alcoa",685,443,674
;"3M",880,835,791
;"U.S. Steel",719,768,157}

Alcoa pricing for March could be determined using...

=VLOOKUP("Alcoa",Sheet1!$A$1:$D$4,3,0)
