Removing the Spreadsheet Solutions tab

Using Office 2000. We've got a fair number of templates set up, organised into a number of tabs in the "new" dialog. The thing is that I really don't want Microsoft's "Spreadsheet Solutions" tab with those templates we will never ever use, cluttering things up. It's irritating! It's even worse in Word....

I can't see any obvious way of removing it, it's obviously special. Anyone know how?

Look in the Templates subfolder. Should be something like this:

C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeTemplates

You could then MOVE that folder to another location, that way it won't appear.

Nice try, but that doesn't work. That's where the templates themselves are held, but moving the contents of that folder doesn't remove the tab (there is no physical folder called "Spreadsheet Solutions"), or even the template list from the "new" dialog. If you then try and use one of the now ghost templates, Excel can't find them and tries to reinstall them off the Office 2000 CD.

Strange, i DO have that folder (Spreadsheet Solutions).

Why don't you do a search for all *.xlt, and look for this templates ? they must be somewhere !

Under the Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeTemplates directory there are two sub-directories:

"1033" contains all the standard templates for Word, Excel and Powerpoint, including the ones which appear in the "Spreadsheet Solutions" tab. There are 73 files in here, no further subdirectories.

"Presentation Designs" contains a load more powerpoint templates.

So I'm thinking that Excel has this tab defined somewhere secret. Deleting the templates themselves doesn't change anything, the entries are still visible in Excel like I said in the last post.

I've done a file search for "Spreadsheet solutions" and variations of it, and nothing has come up, searched the registry with no result either. I've got viewing of hidden files enabled.

This is using Office 2000 on Windows 98. I've got Office XP on Windows 2000 at home, I'll see how that functions tonight, see if it gives me any clues.
