I have a business problem that requires conversion of a text file created in batch to excel 2000 format. The text file will contain data in text-based report format. Initially, the text file will be created on a UNIX server and will be distributed via e-mail (Outlook is the e-mail client).
The aim is to automate the conversion of the text file into excel 2000, minimizing human intervention. I'm not sure how to do this or if it's even possible. I'd prefer to see the conversion take place on the UNIX server and then the converted file would be distributed via sendmail or mailx. Again, I'm unsure if this is possible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Regards. |

I am not a vb wiz, but I do this all the time. I record a macro. I open the txt file and excel automatically opens an import window, depending on the format I choose comma delimited or fixed width and continue with the needed steps. When I am done I stop the macro. The next time I need to open a similar txt file, I run the macro and it works great.

I am trying to perform the opposite - excel to word. Can you be more specific in your response about the macro, maybe i could try the reverse???

Yes, a fairly simple macro will work for both you of. If you can't get it yourself, feel free to send some sample data, and I can create it.
