Produce a fan chart

Does anyone know how to produce a fan chart in excel similar to this one on the Bank of England website. I would have lower and upper confidence levels of a forecast and I would really only want a graduated fill below and above the correct forecast.

Just an idea...

Could you create series that overlap until the point where you want the data to fan out? The line chart then might produce the effect you want.

What other characteristics would you be missing with the above suggestion? It seems to me that you wouldn't get the shadowing effect, but that could be overcome.

Chris - is that is for real then most appreciated.

The shading is the most important bit really - there is no issue in producing the lines.

Any success in Fan Chart production method ?

I too have to produce some (widening) standard error/confidence bands around a economic forecast extending to 2018

Seems fairly easy but a little fiddly. If anyone creates a custom chart worksheet in Excel for this can they please post it online?

I think the bank of england use a program called Matlab to create their fan charts
