I have an Excel 2000 application running on a Windows 2000 Desktop. I am attempting to print to a HP 8100N networked printer over a Windows NT/Windows 2000 Network. The first
couple of pages print Okay, then the application freezes. The task manager displays a "PROGRAM NOT RESPONDING"
message. What is the problem? Thanks.

Probably have some kind of spool file. Clean up the hard drive:

Jack:

Sometimes when something *just happens* (a burp?) or when a bad file is printed, and it causes the machine or the program to crash, there is an incomplete spool file left on the hard drive. Many other temporary files are created as well, for other reasons. Particularly by Windows. This occurred also in Win3x and still occurs in WinXP.

Many people are not aware of the temporary files. Eventually it can slow their systems down and eat up considerable RAM.

When a search for a specific error does not turn up any known issues, cleaning up the hard drive is the first thing to do.

Disk cleanup does many of these steps for you. http://support.microsoft.com/search/...;en-us;Q253597

I prefer to do them manually. It allows people to see what is occurring on their PCs to bring more attention to the need to clean up.

Some people put lines in their autoexec.bat to clear out the TEMP folder.

...so you can see that I am not alone in my thinking.

I have never seen a virus cause the behavior that Brian is experiencing, and I have never seen viruses create temporary files.
