I am trying to open a large Excel file (6 Megs) and I keep getting a Dr. Watson Excel shutdown message. I noticed that when I launch excel it opens up with a new Book number everytime I try to launch the file. I'm now on Book32.xls. Do you know how I can shut-down all these and start over with Book1.xls? I think that's my problem. Thank you!

If you have pivot tables and/or links in your 6 meg file, try this. When you open, dont update links and after file starts to load, hit the escape key until the file finally loads. I have several large excel files (11mb to 22mb) that occasionally encounter this error. It is a pivottable access thing. If you have pivottables, you will need to rebuild, unfortunately. This always fixes the problem for me.
