Have I a large spreadsheet (+/- 12mb) with a number of VLOOKUP and SUMIF formulas in it. The problem I have is that if I add any more formulas the "CALCULATE" message appears in the bottom toolbar. If I push F9 it recalculates but the "CALCULATE" message still appears. I have tried "CTRL+ALT+F9" but this still does not help. If I shut down and restart the error is still there. I am using Excel 97 with SR2 patch.

Go to the TOOLS menu, select Options and then click the CALCULATION tab. The setting is probably on MANUAL. Set to AUTOMATIC.

I wish it were that simple. Calculation is already set to automatic. If I force a recalc by pushing F9 it says "Recalulating" and the percentage appears, but when it is finished the "Calculate" still appears.
