Split cell

Ok how about this - is there any way to split a cell in the same way that you can with Tables in Word?? (am not referring to merge/unmerge cells, I literally want to split a cell and be able to write text in 2 halves of it.)Someone please design a program that is just for a big document full of text tables!!

Pressing Ctrl + Enter will allow you to type on a second row within the same cell.

Thanks Phylis, what I actually want to do though is get an effect that is 2 columns within a cell. Let's say you have a rectangular cell, and you're putting a list in it. You run out of space going down, and you still have a whole half a cell left on the right you can use, only you can't, unless you put a text box there.

That's what I'm after, probably with no luck!

Based on your description, I'd agree..."probably with no luck". Why are you wanting to do this? Is it that 256 columns is not enough columns? What are you trying to accomplish?

Well actually 256 columns is damn fine, BUT in the document I've got there is a cell that's quite large, let us say for the sake of ease it's for a 'description'. It's about 5 inches long and 2 inches high. It goes at the end of each row containing an item. I know I could re format the whole document and MERGE all the other cells, leaving me millions of cells in my 5 x 2 box, am just trying to avoid doing that. Usually I can just type away a description, but in some cases I need to use the equivalent of a bulleted list which is too long, so I want it to sort of, you know, wrap over to the other half of the cell.

I think you are right, I am out of luck!!

your rectangular cell.......

replicate its size on a spare sheet somewhere twice

in the first replicated cell, type and format your text as you'd desire to see it if your "split" were possible

in the second replicated cell, type and format your text as you'd desire to see it if your "split" were also possible

goto :

. view
. toolbars
. customise
. commands
. tools
. scroll right down to the end of all the options on the right
. click n drag the camera icon into your toolbar

now you are armed with a camera (say "cheese")

highlight your first replicated cell
. click the camera
. go back to your original sheet and click to position your new photo (just drag down and right a lot, it will resize it perfectly)
. right-click the photo
. format picture
. colours and lines
. fill : colour = no fill
. line : colour = no colour

now go back to your second replicated cell

. click the camera
. go back to your original sheet and click to position your new photo (just drag down and right a lot, it will resize it perfectly)
. right-click the photo
. format picture
. colours and lines
. fill : colour = no fill
. line : colour = no colour

Your second image will now sit on top of the first, both being see-through and giving the appearance of a single cell.

Experiment a bit to get the desired effects.

Note though : the images are real-time : if you change the contents of the scource cells, the images UPDATE themselves. This might be a hinderance, but in all the times I've used it, it's actually a mighty fine bonus
