i want to select only the subtotal rows without using the ctrl key.

is the "subtotal" function invoked ?
ie : to the left of your spreadsheet, do you have a list of [1], [2], [3] etc etc and some odd-looking lines ? |

If I understand you, you can collapse your subtotal, highlight it, hit control G, special, visable cells only to copy, etc.
Also, consider using consolidate under data. |
