I am trying write a spreadsheet that will compare water quality data to a water quality standard and tell me how many times the data exceeded the standard. For example, I have data in the range a3:a63. I have a water quality standard in cell a65. I need to count how many of the values in the range a3:a63 exceeded the value in a65. I have tried using Countif but it won't allow me to use a cell reference as a criteria for comparison. Any suggestions?

It worked great. I bet I have wasted 8 hours over the past month trying to get this to work. Thanks!
