Hide Combobox?

I was watching a presentation yesterday, and when the presenter clicked on a cell, a combo box arrow popped up and he selected what he wanted, then we he selected away from that cell, the list and arrow went away. Oooooh, magic! OK, so I am new to these things. Was that a combo box? And how do I get it to hide when that cell is not selected? Thanks.
