How can I make a cell's contents static?

How can I make the contents of a cell (like a title of a column) unchangeable when saving it as a template or Excel file?

You have to protect the sheet. (Tools|protection). But before you do you need to format the cells that you DONT want to protect as not "locked". Go to format|cells|protection

Thanks- I tried this, but when I open the file, I can change it! I am not sure what I'm doing wrong, I am not familiar with Excel at all. It's probably me.

I dont want to be over-obvious, but did you save it? I cant see why these effects would not hold after you re-open the workbook.

Also when you protected the sheet did you make sure "contents" was checked?

And finally, make sure you protected the WORKSHEET, not the WORKBOOK.
