Hello! I have a spreadsheet that is linked to five text files.
I have created the link by using the Tool: Import Data command. The external data is all text files. I set the Properties for each text file link to: - refresh automatically on file open - not prompt for file name This was so the spreadsheet user can copy the current text files they want to analyse and just open the spreadsheet and, voila, data is automatically refreshed without the user having to do anything. I have developed the spreadsheet with the text files in the same folder as the spreadsheet (I have the spreadsheet in My Documents). However, when I give the spreadsheet to the boss, and she puts the spreadsheet and text files (still in the same folder) in a mapped network folder (different from the folder that I developed in), even though the text files are sitting right there with the spreadsheet, Excel can't find them. We have found that you must re-do the import process (Tools: Import Data) on the five text files and then Excel sees them again. This is annoying. Anyone have any solutions? Thanks! set the excel wkbk and txt files in its own directory and winzip it.. then transport it or email it.. Suggets amending Scripts VBA or call reference to this now ie call within the directory noty full path. ie //whatever.. worth a try, i cant test alais... Add>>>> email Directory is a pain so winzip solves this.. Add >>> Windows Outlook XP will hate you for this you MUST lower security ONLY after file received and varified, and PUT STRAIGHT BAD To high STRAIGHT AFTER... _________________ If you can help a guy in trouble - If you can sort that nagging problem - Pease try, in home, at work or on a message board. You could edit the text file's pathname using the Microsoft Development Environment (Shift+Alt+F11).

thanks you guys.
And you're right, Jack: I will try to make this a habit: if I get an answer to a question, I should attempt to post an answer to at least one question as well... Karma! |
