HI THIS SEEMS TO BE VERY COMPLICATED BUT I HAVE THESE 2 DATABASES ABOUT 10,000 ROWS EACH. ONE IS THE OLD ONE AND ONE IS THE NEW ONE. THE DATABASES ARE PARTSLIST THAT WE USE TO BUY PARTS. COL A IS THE ASSEMBLY NUMBER AND COL B IS THE PART NUMBER THERE ARE A BUNCH OF COL. AND THEN COL O IS WHERE THE COMMENTS ARE. MY PROBLEM IS THAT I WENT THROUGH THE OLD DATABASE AND INSERTED NEW COMMENTS, BUT THE NEW COMMENTS HAD TO BE ON A DIFFRENT ROW. SO I INSERTED A ROW AFTER THE PART COPIED THE ROW ABOVE IT AND PASTED IT INTO THAT ROW THEN DELETED THE OLD COMMENT ON THE NEW ROW I JUST CREATED AND TYPED MY OWN IN. SO THE PROBLEM I HAVE NOW IS THAT THE NEW DATABASE HAS SOME STUFF THATS A LITTLE BIT DIFFRENT THAN THE OLD ONE I NEED TO AUTOMATE IT SOMEHOW SO IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY INSERT THE ROW FIND SOMEWHERE IN THE OLD DATABASE AND PASTE IT IN THERE IF I HAVE TO I WILL GO THROUGH IT AND INSERT THE ROWS MANUALLY. BUT IF SOMEHOW I COULD HAVE IT SEARCH THROUGH THE OLD DATABASE AND INSERT THE COMMENTS IT WOULD SAVE ME WEEKS OF INPUTTING DATA THAT I HAVE ALREADY DONE ONCE. P.S I CAN COPY THE OLD WORKBOOK AND PASTE IT INTO A NEW SHEET IN THE NEW BOOK IF I HAVE TO. THANX FOR URE HELP

How about a VLOOKUP formula? Is there some common key between the two databases that you could use a VLOOKUP formula to get the comments moved over?

G'day CyberGuy,
You're probably looking for a VLOOKUP in a column next to your comments that links to the other db. btw, was a little hard on the eyes reading your post. Hope that helps, Adam |

Hey again,
Instead of inserting a new row, why not write the vlookup in a column right next to the original? Or are you doing more than copying and pasting the updated comment? Adam |

yea this is a part of a bigger thing this database is gonna be upload to a program called growth power every comment needs its own line thats why i need it to insert a line copy the line above it and paste it into that one and overwright or del the duplicate comment and paste in the correct one. Also i was playing around with the macros and i think that might be the key, but i cant program very well, does any one know VB well enough to help me, i can send u a few lines of the database if someone whats to figure it out. thanxs for all ure help.
