I am trying to link information from one workbook to another. I know how to set the cell on one workbook to update the selected cell in another workbook by simply assigning an = sign in that cell and entering the corresponding cell ID. My problem is that I want to do this for over 2000 cells and they each will correspond to they same cells in a different workbook. Is there a way to do this without having to enter the formula for each cell over and over?

if the relative structures are the same, you should be able to remove the $ signs from your first formula and just copy paste it 2000 times to the respective places.... excel will increment any rows or columns automatically....
only if the relativity is constant though

So, are you only linking 2 different workbooks, or are you linking several different workbooks to one workbook? I was a little confused by the way you stated your question. I think the way Chris explained it will solve your issue either way. If you remove the dollar signs, you can also autofill it if it's all in the same workbook.
So, say that you're linking Bob.xls to Phil.xls. For example, in Bob.xls, C1 is updated from C1 in Phil.xls. In Bob.xls, type an equal sign, then click C1 in Phil.xls (you already knew this part). Now, remove the dollar signs in your formula in Bob.xls, cell C1. If C2 is to equal C2 in Phil.xls as well (and so on down the column), just grab C1's fill handle & drag down as far as you need to go. Sometimes, I'll have one column coming from one workbook and another from a different workbook, where the cell references still correspond. In that case, I'll copy/paste the formulas from the column that's done into the other column I want linked, and do a find/replace to change the name of the workbook. Good luck, and let us know if this helps you out. |
